Carnegie Dartlet’s Associate Creative Director is a seasoned creative, strategic, and visual problem solver with a passion for team management, strategy, design, typography, imagery, and diverse visual communication principles for strategic storytelling. They must be able to interpret data and strategy into visual outcomes and lead and motivate others to accomplish the same. They must have excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to communicate ideas to teams. 

The Associate Creative Director will be responsible for everything from original concepting of new products and identities to leading client workshop participation and strategic sessions to diverse print and digital production. The Associate Creative Director will be the day-to-day manager and direct reporter of a team of junior, mid-level, and senior designers. The Associate Creative Director will manage their team’s workload and assignments, review and quality control their output, encourage and support their team, and help set the vision for design work produced by the team. It is also expected that the Associate Creative Director will stay hands-on with the work, having their own tasks within the production schedule. 

This is a client-facing role, and as such, the Associate Creative Director must be able to comfortably present agency work to high-level client stakeholders and translate the client needs, challenges, and feedback to the team in a way that is clear and focused. Ultimately, they are responsible for the overall happiness of a client regarding the quality of the product being delivered. Team management and mentorship are important aspects of this position. Carnegie Dartlet sets a high standard for creative excellence, and we are looking for an Associate Creative Director who not only has a large personal range in high-level, highly imaginative design execution but also has a passion to enhance the creative product for team members as well. They understand what makes design good and ensures only the best work is produced and delivered.

This role is currently remote, but we are looking to fill the position near Nashville, Tennessee, as we are expanding our presence in the region.

Carnegie Dartlet specializes in producing advertising, marketing, and communications campaigns and materials primarily for clients in the higher education space and for domestic and global companies in the health care, retail, destination, athletics, and financial sectors.

Typical activities:

While the breadth of the Associate Creative Director’s duties is wide, these tasks are common:

  • Creative leadership and big-picture thinking 
  • Team assignments and workload balancing
  • Overseeing/checking all designers’ work, ensuring products are being delivered to standard
  • Attention to fine detail and macro-storytelling 
  • Producing diverse print and digital media 
  • Conceptualizing and originating, following through execution, and templating work 
  • Attending and engaging in live strategic, creative workshop blitzes on site
  • Motivating and mentoring their team and other creative staff members 
  • Attention to detail across various mediums 
  • Self-managing workloads under tight deadlines 
  • Managing team workloads under tight deadlines 
  • Quality control of others’ work, including stepping in and taking on some of another’s workload to ensure timely and quality delivery to client
  • Working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Thirst for creative challenges and visual problem-solving

Skills required:

An Associate Creative Director must possess a wide range of abilities that include:

  • At least 12 years of related experience 
  • High proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office suite as well as knowledge of HTML5 and CSS
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or related field
  • A proven track record in the planning and execution of a wide variety of design projects
  • The ability to understand the communication needs of clients, consumers, and target audiences
  • The ability to inspire confidence during client interactions

The Associate Creative Director must hold at least a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field and have at least 12 years of integrated corporate- and client-side experience in design, illustration, multimedia, or a related industry. Advertising agency experience is a plus. Proven results creating complex communication projects with a vast portfolio of demonstrated successful case studies is required.
