Content Strategist

Carnegie Dartlet’s Content Strategist is a diversely skilled strategic thinker and writer, facilitating content construction and delivery across the research, strategic, and creative functions of the company. The Content Strategist will generate a skillful and efficient approach to delivering the best product to clients, incorporating a deep understanding of the specificities and realities of each client, knowledge of overall industries and sectors, and communication best practices. In attending and leading client audit sessions, they’ll gather key data and insights and translate them into comprehensive, professional, and formal reports. The Content Strategist will deploy advanced strategic thinking to analyze data to develop and present strategic content recommendations and outcomes. 

Monthly travel, in-room leadership, and comfort conversing with all levels of stakeholders are skills      required within this role, as are critical thinking and the abilities to imagine and write clear and insightful deliverables as well as champion support from cross-disciplinary team members. The Content Strategist should carry a passion and desire to uniquely understand the client and their consumer to create content that unites them. Rather than being overwhelmed by the details, they will masterfully lay out these details in a manner most helpful and impressive to V- and C-level executives. Holding themselves and their creations to the highest standards possible, the Content Strategist will painstakingly subject everything they create to the highest levels of review and scrutiny, correcting their own errors and mistakes before others even notice. Content Strategists are adept managers of their time and thrive working alone and in a team setting.

This role is currently remote, but we are looking to fill the position near Grand Rapids, Michigan, where we have regular team gatherings.

Carnegie Dartlet specializes in research and strategy underpinning advertising, marketing, and communications efforts for clients in the higher education space and, secondarily, for domestic and global companies in the health care, retail, destination, athletics, and financial sectors.

Typical activities

While the breadth of the Content Strategist’s duties is vast, these tasks are common:

    • Travel to client locations to help conduct and at times lead enrollment, marketing, and collateral audits
    • Audit, evaluate, and distill complex messaging so it can be easily consumed through content mediums
    • Produce strategic content for audit reports, situational analyses, and marketing plans
    • Create strategic communications plans and documents (from research to creative) and design specific content strategies to meet organizational objectives
    • Ensure consistency and adherence to client brands and strategies
    • Contribute to company-initiated narratives in person and print and via digital and social networking platforms
    • Effectively translate the company’s philosophy and methods into compelling storytelling content
    • Tailor messaging, narratives, stories, and content for different audiences to drive the desired      action
    • Collaborate with the EVP of Content, company leaders, and others to amplify storytelling cues in prepared speeches and other thought-leadership initiatives

  • Provide pristine editing services to the Research, Strategy, and Creative functions of the company, assessing the quality of content, catching errors, and creating consistencies and efficiencies.

Experience

The Content Strategist must hold at least a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field. At least three to five years of integrated corporate- and client-side experience in marketing, communications, research, or a related industry is preferred, as well as proven results leading complex communication projects and interdisciplinary teams. Experience in (and/or familiarity with) the marketing or enrollment functions of higher education is a plus. While this position requires primarily technical and strategic writing and editing abilities, the ability to also write creative copy is a plus.
