Working as part of a strategic consultancy, Carnegie Dartlet’s Designer plays a pivotal role in design construction for signature creative projects for our higher education clientele. They expertly develop and present strategic design recommendations and bring those recommendations to life through high-quality media that tells a story.

The Designer works across a diverse product set, inclusive of ad campaigns, print, digital, email and web templates, and other marketing communications. They’re able to design beyond generic styles and constructs in favor of deeply personified expressions that move and motivate audiences. They have a passion for understanding the client and consumer and creating wholly original and personified creative that unites them. Secondary projects include design analysis, document design, and internal marketing design. 

Occasional travel and proven design skills are required, as are critical thinking skills, the ability to arrive at original design concepts, and the ability to work both alone and with cross-disciplinary team members. Designers have a passion for understanding the client and consumer and creating distinct and compelling media that unites them. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively translate Carnegie’s personality archetypes into print and digital media that tells a story
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy to client brand standards, messaging platform, campaign concept, student personas, and strategy 
  • Formulate clear and thoughtful design strategies to meet organizational objectives
  • Move design strategies to action, creating high-quality, personified, cohesive design constructs across communication types (print, web, social, video, etc.) in ways that articulate new, desirable realities for audiences  
  • Elevate design concepts and styles to move beyond genericness to be more modern, emotive, attractive, and engaging to student audiences  
  • Contribute to internal marketing and doc building projects as needed 
  • Represent design decisions on client calls when needed 
  • Occasional travel

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • At least five years of related professional experience producing diverse print and digital media  
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud and Mac Office, with some knowledge of HTML5 and CSS
  • Proven abilities in InDesign, Photoshop, and to a lesser extent, Illustrator
  • Enthusiasm for typography, imagery, and applied marketing
  • Ability to follow client style guides and the tact to extend them into new, complementary design constructs
  • Ability to exude personality through design, integrate diverse design styles, and originate new concepts
  • Keen sense of what makes design good and what is appropriate for diverse clients, consumers, and target audiences 
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills, both in front of clients and between colleagues and internal teams
  • Self-motivation and organization
  • Resilience to work across a number of projects simultaneously and balance a high-volume workload
  • Ability to follow processes and achieve deadlines
  • Insight to identify problems and take the initiative to help rectify them

Experience

Carnegie Dartlet’s Designer must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or a related field. At least five years of formal design and client-side experience in media, marketing, communications, higher education, or a related industry is desired. Proven results thriving within complex media projects and working alongside interdisciplinary teams are important. Applicants must provide a portfolio of demonstrated design ability. Applicants who do not provide a portfolio will not be considered.
