Junior Copywriter

Working as part of a strategic consultancy, Carnegie’s Junior Copywriter is passionate about creating compelling narratives that move and motivate audiences. They thoughtfully develop and present strategic content recommendations and bring those recommendations to life through story-driven copywriting.

The Junior Copywriter is able to learn and work across a diverse product set, inclusive of ad campaigns, print, digital, email, web, and other marketing communications. They push themselves to write beyond a generic or news-oriented approach in favor of personified expressions. They can follow content strategies and create content outcomes that speak to diverse audiences and meet project goals. Secondary projects include content analysis, editing, and writing for research and strategy deliverables.

Demonstrated creative copywriting skills are required, as are critical-thinking skills, the enthusiasm to grow in one’s craft, and the ability to work both alone and with cross-disciplinary team members. The Junior Copywriter has a passion for being creative and original in their writing and expanding their creative capabilities to stand apart in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce compelling, story-driven copy for a variety of print and digital deliverables
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy to client brand standards, messaging platform, campaign concept, student personas, and strategy
  • Create content strategies that meet organizational objectives
  • Move content strategies to action, creating personified, cohesive narratives that satisfy project scope, meet client goals, and articulate new, desirable realities for audiences
  • Develop the ability to elevate content beyond the generic to be more emotive, attractive, and engaging to student audiences
  • Contribute to strategic content analysis for competitive analysis reports
  • Contribute to internal marketing and editing projects as needed
  • Represent content decisions on client calls when needed

Basic Requirements

  • At least two years of related experience in creative or marketing writing
  • Demonstrable strength in creative, story-driven copywriting, with samples available to review
  • Strong grammar and formatting skills and familiarity with commonly used style guides
  • Keen sense of newsworthiness and ability to translate unique value propositions into compelling narratives
  • Interviewing skills with ability to ask effective questions and develop rapport/trust with story subjects
  • Desire to learn new writing styles across pieces
  • Team player mentality with ability to communicate ideas and needs to team members
  • Self-motivation and organization
  • Resilience to work across a number of projects simultaneously and balance a high-volume workload
  • Ability to follow processes and achieve deadlines

Experience

Carnegie’s Junior Copywriter must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communication, or a related field. At least two years of professional creative copywriting and client-side experience in marketing, communications, or a related industry is desired.
