Getting Hairy for Charity at Carnegie

You might be wondering why all of our faces have moustaches. Every “Movember” for the past three years we have had a small team of people step forward and carry the torch for increased awareness of men’s health. What is Movember you say?

Movember is the month formerly known as November, where men and women across the globe join together to raise awareness and funds for men’s health. Men grow and women support a Mo (moustache) for 30 days becoming walking, talking billboards. Movember supports world-class men’s health programs that combat prostate and testicular cancer.

Not only is it a great cause but it enables some of us to look spectacularly absurd for those all-important Christmas card pictures and visits with the in-laws at Thanksgiving.

One of the things that hit me when looking into the Movember charity was their values. They are very closely aligned with what we believe here at Carnegie. We believe in having Fun, being Accountable, Caring, working Collaboratively to learn and grow, being Humble, constantly Innovating, creating Remarkable Experiences for our clients and ourselves, and being an Agent of Change constantly challenging the status quo. It may sound like a lot of cliches, but I can tell you that it is the absolute truth here at Carnegie Communications.

Giving back is something we take very seriously too. Along with our yearly Movember efforts, we have an annual silent auction that gets more fun and diverse (and competitive) each year, raising money for such deserving charities as the American Cancer Society, Dana Farber, and the One Fund Boston. In 2011, our company teamed up in a “penny war” to raise money for tsunami relief efforts in Japan. And we also support the Jimmy Fund each year by rallying around our beloved Red Sox for our annual Red Sox Day and hotdog fest. Then there’s our cooperation with #emchat and their #emchat gives back initiative (though they’re really the ones running the show!). Finally, we are very proud of our yearly community service $2,000 scholarship and its inspiring recipients. Their applications blow us away, not to mention continue inspiring us in our own little attempts to better the world.

UPDATE: Thanks to the Carnegie Communications team, we were able to raise $590 for men's health awareness...
